Sprachwechsel und Übersetzung bei Milan Kundera und Libuše Moníková
Exophony and Translation: Milan Kundera and Libuše Moníková
How are Milan Kundera and Libuše Moníková dealing with the translations of their texts and which conclusion can be drawn from this with regard to their concepts of authorship? Both Milan Kundera and Libuše Moníková are of Czech origin and have written literary texts in a second language: Kundera in French and Moníková in German. Both authors were very critical of the translations of their texts and the question arises, why Kundera and Moníková actively prohibited the translation of their texts into Czech. Exemplary comparisons show how the authors’ practical dealings with translations form the background of their discussions of authorship in relation to exophony.
