Kognitionswissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse in Bezug auf Mehrsprachigkeit und literarische Kreativität
The neurosciences and the new imaging processes (in particular, functional
Magnetic Resonance Imaging, f-MRI) are making a significant
contribution to clarifying what goes on in our brain when we carry
out certain activities. How do we learn languages? What differences
are evident in brain activity between speaking one’s mother tongue
and a foreign language? Which areas of the brain are responsible for
the processing of complex cognitive abilities? These are only some of
the research approaches that have been investigated over the last few
years. Of course, fields of research have to be narrowed down in order
to achieve significant results. Age, gender, social context, education,
even whether one is right- or left-handed – all these factors influence
the activity patterns in our brain. Although language research manages
to produce interesting results, there are a great deal more difficulties
involved when addressing the concept of creativity. Thus far
very few research findings on this subject have been published. How
can we meaningfully define and quantify the concept of creativity? In
this regard, neurosciences are only at their beginning.
