Die Ambivalenz der Mehrsprachigkeit als poetologische Grundlage bei Peter Weiss
The delicate relationship to German as his mother tongue and to his home country, from which he had to flee to Sweden due to his Jewish background, was strongly reflected in the artistic work of the writer Peter Weiss, since he produced most of his works while living between several foreign languages. This article therefore aims to establish a nexus between Weiss’ poetics and his multilingualism, since the enforced foreign language acquisition during his exile and the failed attempt to use it as a creative tool brought Weiss back to his mother tongue and initiated a reconquering process, which profoundly shaped the author’s entire creative writing.
